The Head of Research and Development “Head of R&D” is a critical, newly created leadership role reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, with a dotted line to the Vice President Product. Based in the Greater Toronto Area, the successful candidate will lead the development of innovative medical diagnostic technologies and solutions to improve health outcomes for all Canadians and contribute to the next frontier of patient-centric medicine.
The Head of R&D will lead a holistic, streamlined and forward-focused R&D/Innovation strategy with a focus on idea discovery, hypothesis testing and product/service implementation while building and aligning an in-house R&D function with other internal teams to ensure effective implementation strategies and commercialization plans. This will include new product research and development as well as drafting proposals, literature reviews and technical documents.
Critical to the success of this role will be the candidate’s scientific and leadership capabilities, combined with broad healthcare expertise and a proven track record of successfully delivering innovation while building and leading an effective internal R&D organization. The ideal candidate will hold a Master’s or PhD with expertise in epidemiology or a laboratory medicine discipline or a related field with 10+ years of scientific/medical/business leadership experience gained in the research-based laboratory, pharmaceutical or academic environment.
